Craftsman Structure Building Contest 2009

 

I am proud to present my first building contest.  I have designed the contest to be of interest to all modellers … there is something in it for everyone.

 

Deadlines:

 

Entries close on October 1st, 2009 

 

Winners will be announced on November 1st, 2009 

 

Prizes:

 

All entries will receive a coupon for $10 off their next regularly priced Full Steam Ahead kit.

 

$250 in Full Steam Ahead Merchandise - 1st Place

 

$150 in Full Steam Ahead Merchandise 2nd Place

 

$100 in Full Steam Ahead Merchandise 3rd Place

 

Contest Kit Prices:

 

To provide an incentive to those that would like to participate I have included the following special price deals:

 

$120 for any 2 kits (not including the Limited Edition Kits)

 

$149 for 1 Limited Edition Kit and any other kit

 

$190 for 2 Limited Edition Kits

 

NOTE: prices include shipping

 

Payment:

 

  1. My preferred method of payment is by cheque or money order (it saves me a few dollars in Paypal fees).  Call me or email me your order when you drop the cheque or money order in the mail.

Rules:

 

  1. Combine 2 or more Full Steam Ahead kits.  You can kitbash them or keep them separateit is up to you.
  2. Use only the castings and parts that come with the kits.
  3. You may change or add any signage.
  4. You may add scenery (rock, trees, water, grass, dirt, etc).
  5. You may include vehicles and figures.
  6. You can even use the boxes.
  7. Send up to 10 photos (by email, or photo CD) by October 1st, 2009.

 

Judging

(Can be very subjective but follow the suggestions below to guide your building and designing process)

 

Build a model/diorama that follows the following criteria in the 3 AREA’s listed below:

 

AREA 1          “The Scene”

 

a)     Do the colours complement or enhance each other?

b)     Is it composed to focus the viewer’s attention?

c)      Is there a flow or movement to guide the viewer’s eye through the scene?

d)     Are the proportions appealing and appropriate?

e)     Does it captivate the audience?

 

AREA 2          “The Story”

 

a)     Is there an “inherent meaning” that is interwoven in your scene (eg. Is there a meaning beyond the model)?

b)     Does it make you think of something you’d almost forgotten?

c)      Does it stand out in a crowd?

d)     Is it set in a specific time and place?

e)     Is there an element of truth or humour?

 

AREA 3          “Originality/Uniqueness/Innovation”

 

a)     Does it make others say, “Why didn’t I think of that?”

b)     Is there a creative/novel use of all elements in the kits? 

c)      Will others use your ideas and techniques?

d)     Your model is organized and built into an innovative and unique construction?
